So, I am now that I am receiving more than enough from buyout and disability and I don't have the almost 4k a month payment to the ex, I am up for some vacations with the amazing girlfriend. Any suggestions? I was considering Bora Bora or Fiji.

Iceland, seriously; it rules. plus it's the 40th anniversary since Fischer versus Spassky for the World Chess Championship, which was held in Iceland. and whilst Fischer obviously went nuts; his Chess playing skills that time will never be beaten! (geek sport alert, sorry!)

So you want me to go to Iceland to celebrate Bobby Fischer's victory?

No, go to Iceland to enjoy Iceland; everyone will suggest somewhere hot and tropical; where you can relax, Im suggesting something interesting.

I'd avoid England, especially London this year with the Olympics; that money you're saving will be gone before you get yourself out of the airport. Although if we have the riots again this year, you'll make some of that back from flat screen TV's and other stealable gadgets with sell on value.

A cruise!!! :D

I'm all about the tropical climates. Cozumel is nice, as well as Hawaii. Australia and New Zealand don't suck, either.

I want to spend Christmas in England. Thinking of trying for this year or next year.

Would love to see Harrod's all decked out for the holidays, and revisit Bath and Stratford-upon-Avon.

Iceland would be pretty awesome - definitely interesting!
I think anywhere you go will be a riot.

1. Motley Crue pilgramage to Los Angeles. Stop in at their old haunts, visit their former homes, check out the Strip.
2. Canada - Whale watch and do a pub crawl in Newfoundland. Stay at B and B's, hike, charter fish, kiss a cod, get "screeched in".
2. Naples Florida - all white, lots of sun, sea, shops and suburbia. My employer has a huge vacation home with pool and lanai. I could put in a good word for you.
I don't do it on stage in front of men throwing money at me. It's more of a fitness thing.

Doc, re-Bath, I'll be making regular trips for work to Bath. Only been there once (last week) and saw about 7 minutes of the town (the walk from car park to office / office to car park), but the department I'm setting up will mean regular monthly visits.

at the moment all I can say is that the roadworks look to be going well, and it wasn't raining; which for this country is a double bonus.

Hopefully its not a terrible commute for you.

Bath was one of the very first places I visited EVER outside the USA. Very cool & unique place IMO. Can't believe it has been over 10 years.

I loved touring the ancient sites of Aquae Sulis.

The baths are cool and everything to tour with the sour green oxidized waters, but you can't miss the ancient Roman equivalent of The Hitquad: The Curse Tablets- with translations!

We made friends with the owners of this wonderful little Italian cafe tucked away under Pulteney Bridge. They just thought it was the greatest thing to chat up the Americans. Good times! Hope they're still there.

It's all Motorway, so about 2 1/2 hour drive there; so not so much of an annoyance for a once a month trip.

Next time, I'll take a moment away from work and look around, I'll search for the Italian cafe and enjoy what they have to offer!

Where you go depends a lot of things. Are you looking for something romantic and quiet and cozy? Or are you looking for adventure and outdoor activities? Or a combo of both? Does she like to shop?  ;D
Are you looking for historical sites? Museums? Some of my recommendations:

1. Maui--Forgot where I stayed there but it was great for couples old and new. Lots of water sports, adventure, spa treatments, hot tubs, yummy fun.
2. Mexico--couples only. Not for the shy. More fun if you go topless and meet couples. Liberating.
3. Not exotic...but the Carolinas are the best beach vacations if that's your thing. I prefer the Atlantic to the Pacific.
4. Las Vegas--Basic, but fun. Something for everyone there...and then some.

Well, glad to see you took some of our advice, LOL!

Both those ideas sound awesome. Care to make it a threesome? ;D
